Visiting Universal Studios Japan can be a massive day out, and as a result it makes a lot of sense to book accommodation which is close by so that you can get best value out of your day.
On our recent visit to USJ, we chose to stay at the Hotel Keihan Universal Tower which was a great decision. We had a single room for our family of five people, each with a separate single bed and private bathroom. By staying so close to Universal Studios Japan we were able to enter early and make the most of our day. Our room was comfortable and there are a lot of restaurant and souvenir shops close by, plus the hotel is only a short walk to the front entry gate of USJ.
Here are my top picks of hotels near Universal Studios Japan at each price level.
Osaka is a large city with many areas for tourist to stay. You can choose to stay in the Osaka popular downtown areas such as Dotonbori, however to get from Dotonbori to Universal Studios is a 30 minute trip from Namba Station, requiring two different trains. If the focus of your Osaka visit is USJ, then staying at a Universal Studio Osaka Hotel is the best option to make the most of your visit.
If you are planning to spend additional time exploring Osaka then you should consider whether to stay near Universal Studios Japan or whether to stay in a more central location.
On our recent visit we actually visited Osaka twice, the first time to visit USJ on a single day, so that we could visit the park prior to the very busy Golden Week. We spent a day at USJ and then headed towards Hiroshima, and came back to Osaka for a few days as the final stop on our trip.
As a result we decided to stay at the Keihan Universal City Tower Hotel for our first visit, and we then stayed at the Karaksa Hotel Namba in Dotonbori near Shinsaibashi Station for three nights which was a great option to explore central Osaka and also do a day trip to Kyoto and Nara.
On the below map you can see the relative locations of each area to help you decide where to stay.
Booking.com is a great website to check out to find the most cost effective accommodation option for accommodation near Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. We found a great deal through Booking.com for both of our Osaka hotel options which both had great cancellation conditions – which was good because we made quite a few accommodation changes whilst we were finalising our Japan trip itinerary!
A great hotel option is the The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan for accommodation for up to four people with great facilities including free Wi-Fi in all rooms and air conditioning as well as being right outside the entrance to USJ.
As a result of our experiences I definitely recommend the Hotel Keihan Universal Tower for larger families with up to five people which has great facilities including free Wi-Fi, parking, and a spa on the 31st floor with city views, which is only a short walk from the entrance to USJ.
I recommend the J-Hoppers Osaka Universal Hostel for families, couples and solo travellers looking for cheap hotel options near Universal Studios Japan USJ. J-Hoppers hostel has bunk bed rooms and family rooms for up to 8 people with shared bathroom facilities and is a short 500m walk from the USJ entrance.
If you prefer to stay in central Osaka there are many great options. As mentioned above we stayed at the Karaksa Hotel Namba in Dotonbori near Shinsaibashi Station for three nights which was a great option to explore central Osaka and also do a day trip to Kyoto and Nara. As a family we were able to get two adjoining rooms which was great and very comfortable, with a good breakfast included for everyone. We were able to easily walk all around the area to explore, and had many good restaurants and shops close by.
