Where to Stay Near Universal Studios Japan

Visiting Universal Studios Japan can be a massive day out, and as a result, it makes a lot of sense to book accommodation which is close by so that you can get the best value out of your day.

On our recent visit to USJ, we chose to stay at the Hotel Keihan Universal Tower which was a great decision.  We had a single room for our family of five people, each with a separate single bed and private bathroom.  By staying so close to Universal Studios Japan, we were able to enter early and make the most of our day.  Our room was comfortable, and there are a lot of restaurants and souvenir shops close by, plus the hotel was only a short walk from the front entry gate of USJ.

Here are my top picks of hotels near Universal Studios Japan at each price level.

USJ Hotel Options

Osaka is a large city with many areas for tourists to stay in.  You can choose to stay in Osaka popular downtown areas such as Dotonbori, however, to get from Dotonbori to Universal Studios is a 30 minute trip from Namba Station, requiring two different trains.  If the focus of your Osaka visit is USJ, then staying at a Universal Studio Osaka Hotel is the best option to make the most of your visit.

If you are planning to spend additional time exploring Osaka, then you should consider whether to stay near Universal Studios Japan or whether to stay in a more central location.

On our recent visit, we actually visited Osaka twice, the first time was to visit USJ on a single day, so that we could visit the park prior to the very busy Golden Week.  We spent a day at USJ and then headed towards Hiroshima, and came back to Osaka for a few days as the final stop on our trip.

As a result, we decided to stay at the Keihan Universal City Tower Hotel for our first visit, and we then stayed at the Karaksa Hotel Namba in Dotonbori near Shinsaibashi Station for three nights which was a great option to explore central Osaka and also make a day trip to Kyoto and Nara.

On the below map, you can see the relative locations of each area to help you decide where to stay.

If you prefer to stay in central Osaka there are many great options.  As mentioned above, we stayed at the Karaksa Hotel Namba in Dotonbori near Shinsaibashi Station for three nights which was a great option to explore central Osaka and also make a day trip to Kyoto and Nara.  As a family, we were able to get two adjoining rooms which were great and very comfortable, with a good breakfast included for everyone.  We were able to walk all around the area to explore easily, and had many good restaurants and shops close by.
